BartonPartners Architects Planners has a long standing relationship with the Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity. Through the years we have designed, coordinated, and helped construct numerous homes located within Upper Dublin and Norristown. The designs of the homes have developed based upon specific needs of the community, housing costs, and Habitat’s donations. Earlier this spring, BartonPartners teamed with Habitat and MacIntosh Engineering to provide updated drawings of a twin home with immediate funding, which was slated for construction this past summer. The original drawings were completed a few years prior by BartonPartners but updates were necessary due to the change in building codes and EnergyStar requirements. After approved permits were issued, we were offered two separate opportunities to participate in the construction of the home, assisting on exterior and interior framing and sheathing application to the exterior walls. Both build-days proved to be great learning experiences for our staff who participated. They were able to see and learn hands-on how two-dimensional drawn details were constructed and implemented. There are many aspects of community that are transparent throughout the construction, with neighbors volunteering and companies in the area providing supplies for the construction of the homes. The families that will eventually purchase and live in these homes also must volunteer many hours in the construction of their home or neighboring Habitat homes. BartonPartners appreciates offering the experience and time it dedicates to Habitat Montgomery County, and receiving the learning experiences it offers in return.
